CHECK BACK REGULARLY. forthcoming 2001 dates Saturday 15th September 2001 GLASGOW (change of date) KEVIN KEY Tonight's guest is the wonderful KEVIN KEY. Kevin is now perhaps better known as the guitarist in Radio Sweethearts but he is also an accomplished solo performer, as he has proven beyond doubt during previous guest spots at the club. He is joined by his band for this appearance which should coincide with the appearance of his second full length album, the follow up to the critically acclaimed debut "Heartbreak And Blue" (still a favourite in my household). Saturday 27th October 2001 GLASGOW LAZY RANCH HANDS A triumphant return for the boys (and girl) following their brief stint in May when they shared the bill with Dean Owens. No sharing this time, though, as their high harmonies take centre stage. The Lazy Ranch Hands are Andy McDowell,Graeme Hawes, Angela Cleland and, Scott Kennedy. Formed by Andy and Graeme, lifelong friends from the tender age of 5,who shared a passion for the music of Bob Dylan and Neil Young. Deciding to have a go themselves, they began writing songs - to date, they claim a back catalogue of almost 200 (many of which will, in their own words, thankfully, never reach anyone's ears).Their thirst for quality songwriting inevitably drew them to country music, and before long they were listening voraciously to Hank, Gram, Johnny et al. Recruiting long-time friend Scott on bass, they were soon joined by Angela, a friend of Andy's girlfriend, who had a voice like an angel and perfectly suited the high harmony part they had been looking for. They are currently writing new songs influenced by the likes of Bill Monroe,Townes Van Zandt, The Louvin Brothers and even Crosby,Stills and Nash. The Lazy Ranch Hands' agenda is to create a unique and distinctive sound in order to push the music they love to a wider public. Saturday 17th November 2001 STIRLING EVANGELINE (UK) Songwriting duo George Adams and John Naismith have recently been joined by Tracy Lee Walker, James Hazard and Nat Donaldson to form EVANGELINE. Their diverse backgrounds include rock, punk, 60's garage et al but collectively they form a unique alternative country band. Their three track demo cd has seen airplay from both Dave Johannsen and Bryan Burnett and to date their live work has included shows with Neal Casal, Jim White, Radio Sweethearts and Ex-Beatle Pete Best. Saturday 24th November 2001 GLASGOW HELEN REEVES With a truly distinctive voice and strong songwriting, Helen Reeves presents a roots-influenced sound which dips into old time blues and country, with time for some folk and swing on the way. She is joined by Gary Grochla on bass and Sandy Nelson on mandolin and harmonica, giving an easy-going and soulful feel to her fine songs. They recently accompanied Helen in recording her debut album Six Feet Up, which has been receiving airplay on Radio Scotlands Brand New Opry and Celtic Connections programmes.
